Fish. Print. Eat. Repeat.
Gyotaku & Feast brought together art, culture and cuisine in a hands-on experience inspired by the traditional Japanese practice of fish printing.
Led by regional artists Hol and Joe from By Hol + Joe, guests explored Gyotaku, a centuries-old technique originally used by Japanese fishers to record their catch.
Participants were guided through the full process, from preparing and inking the fish to creating a print and adding hand-painted details. Each guest created their own keepsake artwork while learning more about the connection between fishing, creativity and the ocean.
Throughout the evening, a curated Japanese dining experience was woven into the workshop, with dishes inspired by the flavours and traditions of Japan.
Featuring local seafood and seasonal ingredients, the menu complemented the creative experience and brought together the Gascoyne’s produce with Japanese culinary influences.
The result was an immersive evening celebrating the catch through creativity, connection and food.
