Celebrate real food as culinary visionaries turn Carnarvon into the Mediterranean

Carnarvon is set to transform this August for the 2024 Gascoyne Food Festival with Jenna Holmes, affectionately known as Pasta Mama, using all local Gascoyne produce to bring a taste of the Mediterranean to the long table lunch.

Known for her commitment to local produce and inspired by the health benefits of the world's blue zones, Jenna is set to elevate Carnarvon's food scene alongside the dynamic sibling duo from Abruzzo, Italy, Daniela and Attilio Maiorano.

Jenna Holmes' ethos centres on celebrating local ingredients, a philosophy that will be on full display at the Long Table Lunch.

"This long table lunch is more than just a meal; it's an Epicurean affair where guests are encouraged to embrace the chaos and connection of dining together," said Jenna.

“The event promises an immersive sensory experience, blending vibrant flavours with the lively company of friends, set against the picturesque backdrop of a working banana plantation.”

Daniela Maiorano, a fourth-generation chef from Abruzzo, grew up in a kitchen environment rich with tradition and innovation. With influences from her own family, Daniela brings passion, creativity, and a deep-rooted love for food that promises to leave attendees inspired and craving more.

The menu for the event is a testament to the region’s bounty, featuring fresh local produce, slow-cooked ragu, and a banana-inspired dessert, showcasing the unique flavours of the Gascoyne.

Gascoyne Food Council Chair Chris Higham said this celebration highlights what makes the Gascoyne region so special – from its rich seafood to the fertile lands nourished by the mighty Gascoyne River.

“The Gascoyne Food Festival celebrates the wonderful producers, growers, pastoralists and sea mongers who work tirelessly to put food on our tables,” said Chris.

“We know this event will put our food producers in the spotlight, and when attendees go home to their own communities, they’ll share the amazing news of what we have to offer in the Gascoyne region.”

WA Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA said the event showcases the best of the region’s culinary offerings, drawing visitors from far and wide to the Gascoyne region.

"We’re always really proud to support these types of events that bring people to the town, support local businesses and create a fantastic atmosphere,” said the Deputy Premier.

“Carnarvon sits on WA’s Coral Coast Highway, one of Australia’s Great Scenic Drives, and I encourage travellers to beat the winter weather and head north to the Gascoyne Food Festival as part of an iconic WA road trip holiday.”

Sea Harvest, known for its succulent seafood, will be a key sponsor, providing fresh ingredients that epitomise the coastal flavours of the region.

“Sea Harvest’s seafood is famously "Seasoned by the Sea." The unique flavour profile is a result of the high salinity waters of Shark Bay, which impart a natural sweetness to the seafood.

“This distinctive taste sets Sea Harvest apart, making their offerings a delightful treat for any seafood connoisseur," said Sea Harvest General Manager Demetri Demosthenous.

Attendees are invited to feast, savour, and support local small businesses and artisans in an environment that fosters fun, openness, and authenticity.

"We’re excited to showcase the real Carnarvon and the incredible producers behind the food," said Jenna.

This event is just one highlight of the vibrant Gascoyne Food Festival calendar, which includes Around the Fire Pit, Bullara Long Table, a free ‘Catch a Taste’ of the Gascoyne Food Festival community event, Flavours of the Gascoyne, Australia’s Biggest BBQ, and the Whalebone Hoedown.

This is a unique opportunity for attendees to enjoy a meal that celebrates the essence of Carnarvon and the Gascoyne region, where the desert meets the sea in a delicious and unforgettable dining experience.

The Gascoyne Food Festival is proudly sponsored by Tourism WA, Gascoyne Development Commission, Shire of Carnarvon, Shire of Exmouth, Tremor Earthmoving, Norwesta Lifestyle Park, and Mundillya Homestead.
